The BARF Model Explained

Five categories build a complete and balanced raw meal.

🥩

70% Muscle Meat

Beef, lamb, chicken, turkey, duck, rabbit, venison. Provides protein, B-vitamins, iron, and zinc. Rotate proteins weekly for variety.

🦴

10% Raw Meaty Bone

Chicken necks, duck wings, lamb ribs. Natural calcium and phosphorus source. Always raw — never cooked. Always supervise.

🥬

10% Veg & Fruit

Pumpkin, spinach, kale, blueberries, apples (no seeds). Lightly steamed or pureed for digestibility. Provides fiber and antioxidants.

The BARF Math

Daily total = body weight × percentage (2% adult, 3% active, 5–10% puppy)

Daily total × {0.70 meat, 0.10 bone, 0.10 veg, 0.05 liver, 0.05 other organ}

The 70/10/10/5/5 BARF ratio was developed by Dr. Ian Billinghurst and is widely accepted by raw-feeding nutritionists. Some feeders use the 80/10/10 PMR variant (no veg) — choose what fits your dog.
